Rachel is Sandbag’s Managing Director. She oversees the organisational management of Sandbag, strategic policy direction and fundraising.
Rachel Solomon Williams is a policy consultant and former civil servant with particular expertise in energy and environment matters. She joined the UK civil service through the fast stream graduate programme in 2002 and was quickly promoted, taking up her first senior civil service role in 2011. Rachel worked in a number of policy areas across Defra and DECC, including as policy lead on the UK Climate Change Act, running the controversial review of the Feed-in Tariffs Scheme, and leading plans for siting a geological disposal facility for the nations legacy of nuclear waste. She also spent a year on secondment to Tesco, as Climate Change Manager.
She is a graduate of Clare College, Cambridge, a school governor and a keen amateur musician.
Rachel is covering for Debbie Stockwell whilst Debbie is on maternity leave.
